Pesticide labels will include directions for protective measures for endangered species, known as mitigations, as new active ingredients are registered and existing pesticides are re-registered. These mitigations are listed broadly under “Directions for Use,” “Mandatory Spray Drift Management,” and ” Mandatory Runoff Management” (see the Liberty Ultra label pages 8, 9-12). In addition to specific mitigation requirements on the labels, you may be directed to view the Bulletins Live! Two webpage or the Mitigation Menu with additional site-specific information. This information is located in sections titled “Endangered Species Requirement” or “Endangered Species Protection Requirement” (see pages 12 and 13 of the label).
Drift reduction measures are specified on the label, whereas runoff/erosion reduction measures must meet a set number of points. There are options for meeting those points in the Mitigation Menu. The Bulletins Live! Two website will provide additional mitigation measures that are required if your application site or farm is located in a Pesticide Use Limitation Area (or PULA).
